future projects
Besides the already established projects, CCW has the vision to establish more projects that meet other crucial needs of our society. The following list of projects gives you an idea of our ambitious vision to grow and to increase our impact. If you would like to receive more detailed information about any of these projects, please do not hesitate to contact us.
Peace education
In order to transform conflicts and develop a culture of nonviolence in a society, it is important to educate children and youths to manage conflicts in a peaceful manner. When a society uses peace education, it actually plants a precious seed, which will later develop into a peaceful and responsible generation. Based on Burundi’s history, which is marked with decades of internal conflicts and wars, it is crucial to transform the society in a sustainble way and promote a culture of peace.
The CCW peace education pursues three broad goals: At first it wants to equip students with knowledge about conflicts, violence and peace and the ability to analytically and critically assess conflicts in their society. Secondly, the project will aim at the personal peace capacity. Students should be enabled to reflect on their own attitude and behaviour and know how to behave in conflicts in manner that contribute to its de-escalation. And thirdly, we would like to encourage children and youths to take responsibility for their society, be pro-active and engage themselves in social activities that contribute towards a more peaceful Burundi.
This historical stone reminds the world where Missionary David Livingstone from Scotland met Stanley, the American journalist on 25 - XI - 1871. By that time, David was exploring the very southern source of Nile which is located at Rutovu in Bururi Province in Burundi.
How wonderful is it to visit such a historical area and be influenced by explorer believers !

Community Development Centre
Since its existence, Cup of Cool Water has always worked with limited office space. Office activities are held within a hired and small house where the director of CCW lives and the organizations needs to hire venues to run seminars and workshops. As the organization is growing and adding projects, our vision is to establish a Community Development Centre which provides us with the needed space to underake our activities more effectively.
We would like to buy land, where we can build an office that serves as the ministry headquarters, a conference hall, rooms for accommodation and a Christian school. The conference hall and the rooms for accommodation will also serve as means of income generation and promote the sustainability of CCW ministry.

Radio/ TV programming for reconciliation & peace education
In the last years, many peace-building organizations have realised the great impact that radio can have to promote peace and other positive values in a society. Considering the fact that the radio constitutes the major information source for Burundians, one can easily understand why Cup of Cool Water plans to establish a radio station.
Although the radio station will focus on issues related to peace and reconciliation it will also produce programs on many other topics (Evangelism, community development, gender, human rights, good governance, democracy, fight against HIV/AIDS, health, etc.) and educate its audience in a universal manner. Even the establishment of a TV station can be a very useful tool to reach hundred of thousands of Burundians who live in urban areas and can afford to own televisions. Movies and series can attract many people and educate them in a very visual manner about peace and reconciliation themes.

Orphanage
CCW has the vision to establish an orphanage since there are many orphans in Burundi who loose their parents due to poverty and HIV/AIDS. Some of these children have relatives but those are not able to take care of them and the orphans are forced to live on the street. Some of them are sexually abused by other fellow street children. Starving of hunger, they end up by involving themselves in criminal activities and taking drugs to intoxicate themselves to forget their misery temporally. Some of them also engage in banditry, which is a threat to the public security.
We would like to construct an orphanage, which will be run by qualified social workers and which gives these orphans a new chance in life. In order to provide the children with an opportunity to lead a self-reliant life, we plan to educate them at formal schools, where they can develop their talents and become responsible persons. We plan to produce some of the needed resources for the orphanage locally, e.g. milk through a cow farm, so that it can run in a more sustainable manner.

Carpentry
Burundi has an alarmingly high youth unemployment rate. If youths do not receive the opportunity to work and lead a self-reliant life, they are prone to become criminals or being used by politicians to commit violent acts. It is thus a crucial task for any society to offer youths meaning in life. We believe that every youth should have the right to learn a profession and develop their talents.
Through a carpentry project we seek to equip unemployed and marginalized youths with the professional skills and starting-kits to start their own businesses as carpenters. In this way, they can start gaining their own income, lead an independent life and contribute in a constructive way to the society. Considering the shortage of trees in Bujumbura area, we plan to establish the carpentry in a province abundant in trees, like Karuzi province.

Micro Finance Project
When you want to start your own business, you always need some sort of capital. 81,3 % of Burundians live with less than 1,25$ per day (UNDP), which makes it very challenging for them to save money and create a capital. If they use credit schemes from conventional banks, they face huge interest rates and other inconvenient conditions.
Based on other successful micro finance projects, CCW intends to establish a micro finance scheme for those that have successfully participated in CCW reconciliation seminars. We want to encourage the participants to form small groups and start saving money into a common saving box. Once the individuals succeeded to save a certain amount, they will receive a micro credit from CCW. This money will constitute their capital to start a small business and provide them with a chance to gain a regular income.

Song Project
Since the existence of Burundi, a great number of poems, stories and songs were passed orally from generation to generation but this oral transfer of cultural knowledge often became distorted due to forgetfulness or even deliberate intention. Thus, it is not possible in most instances to know anything about the author, the place, the year or the circumstances in which a song was composed.
Cup of Cool Water’s song project intends to promote Christian songs, poems and stories. We want to collect and write down local songs and record them. Since many Christian songs exist only in English language, we also would like to translate these songs from English into Kirundi, Swahili or French. In this way a larger portion of our Burundian society can benefit from the lyrics. The general aim of this project is to spread the Good news through music so that it can strengthen the faith of believers.
